Meet Karthik: an introvert by nature and shy by choice. Karthik suffers with huge confidence issues and is miserable at his just average job that yields less than average results.
His boss treats him like dirt. Shonali, his colleague who he secretly loves doesn’t even know he exists. Karthik is a loser, Konws it, and accepts it.
Karthik believes his life cant get any worse and then suddenly one night, it happens; The phone rings. And Karthik speaks to someone he never thought he would. He speaks to a man who also claims to be Karthik. The man on the phones says that he is here to change Karthik’s life.
Karthik accepts the phone in his life and soon it becomes his guide, his mentor, friend and guardian. And most importantly it becomes the ticket to the love of his life, Shonali and Karthik’s life changes in ways that he hadn’t imagined.
The official synopsis says that ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ is the story of a man (Akhtar) who gets phone calls from himself, one never knows what to expect when the clock strikes five, and the phone rings. Farhan Akhtar himself was completely committed to his role as the lonely brooder; during filming he distanced himself from people and even switched off his phone almost entirely. Farhan even had to master solving the Rubik’s Cube. ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ is slated to release on 12th February 2010. Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy have jammed once again for the music with lyrics by Javed Akhtar and cinematography by Sano Varghese.
In ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ Deepika plays a down and out, frustrated chain smoker; she had reportedly almost declined the role fearing she might get addicted to cigarrettes. However producer Ritesh Sidhwani suggested that she smoke nicotine free cigarettes during filming, which are less dangerous to health. In the film Deepika’s character is a metropolitan girl who is addicted to smoking. Farhan Akhtar’s character advises her against it and eventually succeeds in getting her to quit smoking.
